Renters Insurance in Arizona: What Tenants Should Know

A landlord's building policy generally serves a different purpose from a renter's policy. Renters can review personal belongings, personal liability, temporary living expense terms, and deductibles based on their own lease and circumstances.

Estimate the belongings you would need to replace

Make a basic room-by-room inventory and note higher-value items. Review personal property limits, any special limits, and whether settlement terms use replacement cost or another valuation method under the policy.

Review liability and temporary living expense terms

Consider the personal liability limit that fits your situation and read how the policy describes covered incidents and exclusions. Ask what conditions apply to additional living expenses after a covered loss; benefits and eligibility depend on the policy.

Compare options with your lease in hand

Share any insurance requirements in your lease and compare limits, deductibles, covered causes of loss, exclusions, and premium. A renters policy does not insure the landlord's building or automatically cover every loss to your belongings.
